Mfantsipim School has claimed the ultimate prize of the National Science and Maths Quiz (NSMQ), marking their third championship title.
The Botwe Boys fought fiercely to reach the grand finale, overcoming two formidable opponents: Prempeh College in the quarter-finals and Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (Presec) in a tense semi-final that went to a tie-breaker.
In the final, Mfantsipim faced off against two-time champions St. Augustine’s College (Augusco) and two-time finalists Keta Senior High Technical School (Ketasco). The competition was intense, but the Botwe Boys delivered a spectacular comeback in the final round to take the lead.
Despite leading, Mfantsipim’s victory was hard-won, narrowly avoiding defeat against Augusco thanks to Ketasco, who provided a crucial correct answer on the last riddle question. In a nail-biting finish, Mfantsipim secured the win with 47 points, just edging out St. Augustine’s, who finished with 46 points. Keta SHTS rounded out the contest with 32 points.
This victory underscores the Botwe Boys’ grit, teamwork, and academic excellence. The NSMQ trophy is now back home, and the school is ready to celebrate this hard-fought achievement.
The competition began with Mfantsipim and Augusco tied at 24 points in the first round, while Ketasco trailed with 13 points. In the second round, Augusco expanded their lead to 34 points, but Mfantsipim kept the pressure on, closing in with 31 points, while Ketasco fell to 12 points.
The atmosphere in the auditorium was electric, with passionate supporters from all three schools cheering loudly.
