NDC presents petition to Parliament

Ghana’s opposition party, National Democratic Congress (NDC) formally submitted a petition to Parliament in Accra, outlining their key demands following the ‘Enough Is Enough’ protest held on Tuesday. Fifi Kwetey, the party’s General Secretary, highlighted the request for a forensic audit of the voter register as a reasonable demand. He emphasized that transparency is essential and urged Parliament to ensure these demands are met to establish a credible voter register for the 2024 elections.

Mr. Kwetey outlined various demands, including a bi-partisan probe into the Electoral Commission’s conduct, a forensic audit of the voters’ register, publication of findings, re-exhibition of the register, and accountability measures to prevent manipulation in the future. The petition was accepted by Majority Leader, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, signaling progress towards addressing the NDC’s concerns and enriching democracy. The protests across all regions were a response to the EC’s refusal to conduct a forensic audit of the voter register.
