NDC to win in 11 regions, NPP to suffer dip in Ashanti –SBM Intelligence Projects

Latest research indicates that the National Democratic Congress (NDC) is expected to lead in 11 regions during the upcoming December 7 polls, as per a report by SBM Intelligence. The New Patriotic Party (NPP) is projected to see a slight decrease in votes in its stronghold, the Ashanti Region. With just three months remaining before the elections, political parties are stepping up efforts to galvanize their supporters.

The report notes that the NDC is likely to secure victory in 11 regions, including all three swing regions, while leaving only five regions for the NPP. The NDC is anticipated to face strong competition from the NPP in the Northern, Western North, and Oti regions. Traditionally loyal to the NPP, the Ashanti Region is expected to see a decline in support for the party.

Additionally, the NDC is predicted to maintain three regions in the 2024 Presidential election and challenge the NPP for the Northern region. The NPP’s Vice Presidential candidate, Bawumia, is expected to help the party maintain its win in the North East region and increase its vote share.

The report, titled ‘Ghana’s 2024 elections: A preview’, is current as of September 12, 2024. More than 20 presidential aspirants have submitted their forms to the Electoral Commission earlier this month, with new candidates gaining momentum. The research suggests that smaller parties may only have the potential to push the election to a runoff, as many wonder about their ability to challenge the dominant parties.
