Police charged Xavier-Sosu for obstructing highway, causing damage to public property

Ghana Police Service has levelled two charges against Madina Member of Parliament Francis Kojo Xavier-Sosu for driving a protest over deplorable roads that turned tumultuous.

The charges are obstructing highway and causing damage to public property.

The legislator is relied upon to answer the charges on November 8 in court.

The Police have blamed Mr Xavier-Sosu for inducing his constituents to obstruct the roads during protest.

They have fizzled in their endeavour to arrest the MP who has declined a few Police summons refering to Parliamentary immunity.

In the interim, the Speaker of Parliament has told the Police that to capture a sitting MP, the suitable strategy is to get from the Speaker, a declaration that the MP being referred to isn’t taking care of Parliamentary business.

He noted that anything shy of this won’t be engaged by Parliament.

Mr Bagbin expressed that although the immunity and privileges of MPs are not absolute, the laid down procedures for causing the arresting of a sitting MP should be as per the constitution.

Xaviy Sosu will appear in court to respond to the charges on November 8, 2021.

Meanwhile, Xavier-Sosu’s Spokesperson says the ” Madina MP hasn’t been served with the charges proffered against him.
