Political-military shake-up unfounded- Presidency

The Presidency has issued a response to allegations claiming that there was a deliberate effort to orchestrate politically-motivated changes within the hierarchy of the Ghana Armed Forces. These allegations also suggested that the military would be used to harm citizens during the upcoming December 7 elections.

According to a statement from the Presidency’s Communications Director, there was indeed a meeting held on January 2, 2024, at Jubilee House between the President and the Heads of Security agencies. However, this meeting is a yearly event on the President’s calendar to receive well-wishes for the new year from the security agencies. It is an opportunity for the President to express his appreciation for their commitment to maintaining peace and stability in the nation.

The Presidency emphasized that no discussions regarding changes to the leadership of the Armed Forces took place during this meeting, as falsely claimed on social media. Any future changes in the hierarchy will be made by the President in accordance with the Constitution and established conventions, without any political considerations.

The Akufo-Addo-led administration assured that the Ghana Armed Forces will operate without any partisan influences, maintaining their reputations. The statement also reassured the public that the 2024 general elections will be free, fair, and transparent.

In conclusion, the Presidency urged the public to dismiss these unfounded speculations and publications, as they aim to create divisions within the Armed Forces. The statement emphasized the importance of safeguarding peace and stability in Ghana.
