Sege MP holds TOSA ’96 to dinner & night of appreciation at Boshorus Restaurant

On the evening of Friday, 3rd January 2025, Hon. Daniel Keshie Bessey, the Member of Parliament (MP) for Ada West (Sege), hosted a memorable dinner at Bosphorus Restaurant and Café in Labone for his former schoolmates and colleagues from Tema Secondary School – TOSA ’96. The gathering was a special night of appreciation, where Hon. Bessey took the opportunity to express his gratitude to his TOSA ’96 peers for their invaluable support during his recent campaign for the parliamentary seat.

The event was more than just a celebration. It served as a heartfelt thank-you to the members of TOSA ’96 who had provided both moral and financial support throughout his campaign journey. Hon. Bessey shared touching stories of how his old schoolmates not only stood by him during his first attempt at the primaries but also mobilized resources, some even sending funds directly to him. “Words cannot fully express my gratitude, but deep down in my heart, I hold you all in a very high place,” he remarked, addressing his classmates with immense appreciation.

The night was filled with laughter, stories, and camaraderie as schoolmates, friends, and family members gathered to honor the MP for his victory and the strides he has made for his constituents.

Highlights of the programme

The event’s highlight was a moving speech by Dr. Felix Kodzo Besah Sorvor, who spoke on behalf of the TOSA ’96-year group. He congratulated Hon. Bessey on his success and applauded his dedication to both his community and his alma mater, Tema Secondary School. Dr. Sorvor praised Hon. Bessey’s tenacity, pointing out that his victory exemplified the true spirit of a Temascan: “Always the best.” The words resonated deeply with everyone present, reminding them of their shared history and the values that TOSA ’96 holds dear.

Hon. Bessey, throughout the evening, took time to personally acknowledge and thank each attendee. His first words of appreciation were directed at his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Bessey, whom he fondly referred to as his “dear Rebecca.” With a warm and humorous touch, the MP moved from table to table, expressing his gratitude to each person for their support during the campaign and for honoring his invitation to the special gathering.

In an insightful conversation with his guests, Hon. Bessey shed light on the challenges and realities of being a Member of Parliament. When asked about the average time it takes for someone to be successful in securing an MP seat, he shared valuable insight into the evolving nature of politics. “Things have changed considerably,” he noted, emphasizing that constituents today demand more personal engagement from their representatives. It is no longer just about wealth or power; it is about being visible, available, and genuinely involved in the lives of the people.

He explained that a person aiming for the parliamentary seat must be actively present in the constituency for a period of 8 to 12 years, building relationships, attending events, and demonstrating commitment to the well-being of the community. “You must be seen doing ground activities with these people, making your intentions known,” he advised.

For those looking to enter the political arena, Hon. Bessey stressed the importance of having family support, particularly from one’s spouse. “Contesting for a parliamentary seat is not only financially demanding but also emotionally taxing,” he confessed. He shared how his wife, Mrs. Genevieve Bessey, had been a constant pillar of support, reassuring him through every challenging moment. “She has always supported my dreams and has been fully part of them,” he said with evident gratitude.

Hon. Bessey also emphasized the importance of engaging in constructive dialogue and welcomed advice and feedback from both his constituents and his peers. He noted that he represents two constituencies: the Ada West (Sege) constituency, where he is tasked with ensuring the people’s well-being, and Tema Secondary School, where he serves as an example for future generations.

In closing, Hon. Bessey urged everyone to actively participate in their alumni groups and support one another. He spoke of the great plans he had for the people of Sege, including the consideration of enrolling them into a socio-economic insurance scheme that would address family needs such as funeral support and job opportunities.

The dinner and appreciation night hosted by Hon. Daniel Keshie Bessey was a fitting testament to the power of unity, friendship, and community support. It highlighted the importance of giving back and honoring those who have helped you along the way. As Hon. Bessey continues to work hard for the progress of Ada West (Sege), the memories of this unforgettable night will no doubt serve as a source of inspiration and motivation as he navigates the challenges of his political career. With the unwavering support of his TOSA ’96 classmates and his constituents, the future looks promising for Hon. Daniel Keshie Bessey.
