The story of late Lawyer Akoto Ampaw

Anthony Akoto Ampaw also known as Che Che, was a Ghanaian lawyer and Human Rights Activist.

He was the Head of the Legal Team that defended President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s victory in the2020 Presidential elections at the Supreme Court.

Sources say he died in the early hours of Friday, October 20, at the University of Ghana Medical Center (UGMC).

According to available information, the lawyer has not been well since the beginning of 2023.

His remarkable legal career was further underscored by his involvement in the New Patriotic Party’s legal team during the Election Petition of 2020.

Beyond his extensive legal expertise, Mr. Ampaw was a valued partner at Akufo-Addo, Prempeh & Co., the esteemed law firm associated with President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo.

Ampaw was tipped to be named Special Prosecutor following the passage of the Office of Special Prosecutor Bill.

He is a graduate of the University of Ghana, LL.B., 1973 and the Ghana School of Law, B.L., 1993.

Lawyer Ampaw has an impeccable legacy in the legal fraternity especially championing human rights campaigns and fair justice.

He specialised in commercial law, company law, industrial law, litigation, constitutional and human rights law, media law, labour law, investment law among others.

As a Human Rights Activist, Akoto Ampaw recently joined hands with other individuals and civil society organisations to oppose the anti-LGBTQ+ Bill currently being considered by Parliament.

He opposed the bill sponsored by a Private Member’s motion led by Ningo Prampram MP, Sam George.
