Woyome to sue GLC over decision to disbar Chief State Attorney
Alfred Agbesi Woyome, a Businessman, is contesting the decision by the General Legal Council to disbar Chief State Attorney Samuel Nerquaye-Tetteh due to the transfer of GH¢400,000 into his wife’s bank account. He has threatened to challenge the General Legal Council’s decision in court.
Mr. Woyome, speaking to the media on February 16, emphasized that he has never and will never pay a bribe, and believes that the state attorney is being unfairly targeted.
The remarks from Mr. Woyome came after the GLC disbarred Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh for collecting GH¢400,000 from Mr. Woyome in 2011. The GLC stated in a notice dated January 31, 2024, that Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh caused the transfer of GH¢400,000 from Mr. Woyome to the bank account of his wife, without providing a reasonable explanation for the transfer.
Mr. Woyome stressed that it is unfair to mistreat the Chief State Attorney, who has worked for the betterment of the country and has saved Ghana money through his efforts in the legal system.
He also expressed that the GLC’s statement regarding Mr. Nerquaye-Tetteh’s conduct is regrettable and believes that the GLC’s decisions can and should be challenged, as it is a civil judicial body.
Mr. Woyome revealed that he attempted to participate in the GLC case against Mr. Tetteh, but his request was denied.
