2020 Polls: Arm twisting caused NDC’s defeat- Mahama

Ex-president and National Democratic Congress Flag bearer in 2020 polls John Mahama says “arm twisting by the governing party” led to the loss of his party.

He disclosed this during his thank you tour of Upper West Region on Monday 23 August 2021.

The former President has also asked President Akufo-Addo to be tolerant and pay attention to concerns raised by #FixTheCountry Campaigners.

A group of youth known as #FixThe Country Movement hits the streets of Accra to demand better living conditions of the masses asking for quality education, healthcare, health systems, gainful employment, an enabling environment, creative opportunity for young men and women to invent, innovate and optimise Ghana’s natural resources for benefits.

The movement earlier attempted to demonstrate but were unsuccessful amidst ex-parte court order secured by the police which was quashed by the Supreme Court.

The last battle the movement had fight was application on notice filed by the police but was shot down by the High court paving ways for the protest that saw participation of both old and Ghanaian youth.

Speaking during his “Thank you” tour of his home region- Upper East, the NDC 2020 flag- bearer and Opposition Leader John Mahama said “Unemployment has been a problem for every government in Africa. It’s a rebellious against suppression. So Mr. President listen to the concerns of the #FixTheCountry Movement and don’t be intolerant”.

Meanwhile, Ex-President John Mahama has taken a swipe at President Akufo-Addo, accusing him of consuming huge money he borrowed, increasing the public debt stock to GHC332.4 but has no projects to show for it.

Ghana’s public debt stock currently stands at GHC 332.4 per latest figures released by the Bank of Ghana with NDC caucus of parliament accusing Akufo-Addo government of accounting for 60%.

According to President Mahama, the Akufo-Addo -Bawumia-led Administration is being forced to preach invisible “Agenda 111” because they are compelled by the situation to justify the reason for shooting up Ghana’s public debt stock to GHC332.4.

Speaking during his “Thank you” tour of the Upper East Region today Tuesday 18 August 2021, the former Ghanaian Leader Mahama said “They’ve borrowed huge money but has no projects to show for it. So… they are under pressure to justify it and are now talking about Agenda 111”.

Apart from that, Ex-president Mahama has urged President Akufo-Addo to continue existing E-block projects he started but have been abandoned by the current government.

Meanwhile, President Akufo-Addo is insisting that “Agenda 111” will make Ghana the center of excellence for medical care.

Speaking during the sod-cutting expected to kick-off establishment 111 district hospitals, President Akufo-Addo said the “projects will be completed in 18 months”.

Ex-President John Dramani Mahama commenced his “thank you” tour of the first five regions of Ghana today Tuesday August 17, 2021 after crucial 2020 elections where he pulled surprises, polling over 6 million votes, creating historic hung parliament except for Independent MP who joined the governing party to form majority caucus.

As part of the tour, the former Ghanaian Leader John Mahama started from his home region Upper East and end at Upper West on Monday August 23, 2021.

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Mahama commenced his tour of the Upper East Region with media engagement, interact with his party members and stakeholders.

He has also meet Regional House of Chiefs and religious leaders to offer gratitude for their supports and guidance during the 2020 polls.

The former President will tour Upper East, North East, Northern, Savannah Regions and wrap up at Upper East Region on Monday August 23, 2021.
