Akufo-Addo sacks Prof. Peter Twumasi

Professor Peter Twumasi, Director General of the National Sports Authority (NSA), has been relieved of his duties. The reason for his dismissal is currently unknown, but Mr. Dodzie Numekevor has been appointed as the Acting Director General in his place.

Prof. Twumasi has faced criticism for his handling of state stadiums, notably the closure of the Accra Sports Stadium during the season to accommodate musical events, resulting in the displacement of several clubs. Mr. Numekevor’s appointment as Acting Director General was formalized by Secretary to President Nana Bediatuo Asante on February 26, 2024, with a condition that he must accept the appointment within 14 days.

Prof. Twumasi took over as Director General on December 10, 2019, following the resignation of Robert Sarfo Mensah amid allegations from the ‘number 12’ exposé by Anas Aremeyaw Anas and Tiger Eye PI. Throughout his tenure, Prof. Twumasi has been a subject of criticism for his management of Ghana’s stadiums, leading to widespread demands for his removal.
