World Cup 2022Q: Black Stars survive last-minute scare to record slim win over Ethiopia
The Black Stars of Ghana opened their world cup qualifiers campaign with a win on Friday night at the Cape Coast stadium with a screamer from Wakasu Mubarak been the only goal that separated the Stars from their Ethiopian counterpart.
The Stars started the match on good note by possessing the ball in the middle part but breaking through the Ethiopian defense was an issue.
The Virginity of the game was however broken in the 35 minutes with a 40yards screamer from Wakasu found the back of the net of the Ethiopian through the legs of their goalkeeper to put Stars ahead before the break.
There were improvements from the Stars in the second half of the game with some shoots outside the box, but they couldn’t increase the tally.
The Ethiopian put the Stars under pressure in the last 10minutes of the game with some incisive passes and shots that called the Ghanaian goalkeeper to duty. Despite the last-minute pressure, the stars managed to hold onto the lead till the end of the game.
Ghana is now on top of Group G with three points after the other group match between Zimbabwe and South Africa ended in a goalless draw.
The Black Stars will now travel to South Africa for the second game of the world cup qualifiers.
