Article 67 of the 1992 Constitution of Ghana mandates the President to deliver a message on the state of the nation at the start of each session of Parliament. President Akufo-Addo will deliver this address on Tuesday February 27, 2024, at 10:00am in the chamber of Parliament at the State House.
Like in previous years, the President is expected to review the achievements of his administration and outline his plans for the upcoming year whilst spelling out the state of the country with reference the various sectors including events unfolding.
The event is expected to be attended by government officials, former presidents, members of the Diplomatic Corp, and traditional leaders.
During his 2023 address, President Akufo-Addo addressed various aspects of Ghana’s economy. He emphasized that the government took responsibility for the audit of COVID-19 funds and there was no misconduct. He also defended the country’s public debt level. The President highlighted the support provided to micro, small and medium-scale businesses, as well as the provision of free water and discounts on electricity bills during the pandemic. He also discussed infrastructure development, road construction, a gold-for-oil policy, and improved national security measures.
