Alan’s campaign:  NPP sacks Adorye, Asamoa, Saddique, Ohene Ntow

Ghana’s governing NPP has removed the membership of Hopeson Adorye, Buaben Asamoa, Saddique Boniface, and Ohene Ntow due to their active campaigning for Alan instead of the elected flagbearer of the party, Dr Mahamudu Bawumia. This decision is based on their violation of the party’s constitution, specifically Articles 3(5)(A)(4) and 3(9)(1), which require members to support and uphold the decisions of the party. Despite their breach, the individuals have continued to associate themselves with the NPP. Consequently, their actions contradict the values of the party, leading to the forfeiture of their membership.

The Movement for Change has responded to the NPP’s expulsion letters by dismissing them as a panic response from the party’s leadership. Courage Nobi, the Acting Director of Communications for the movement, questioned the authenticity of the letters and suggested that the party should issue similar expulsions to all members supporting Alan Kwadwo Kyerematen’s independent presidential ambition. Nobi characterized the NPP’s actions as hasty due to the sizable support the Movement for Change has garnered, particularly during the funeral of late former First Lady Theresa Kufour. He emphasized that the expelled individuals are aware of their actions and consider the letters to be inconsequential. Nobi warned the NPP to expect more reactions from members sympathetic to Kyerematen’s cause, as the party’s expulsion letters are seen as panicked responses to the growing support for the “Butterfly movement.” Nobi, as a member of the communication team, stated that he has not received any expulsion letter from the party, further reinforcing his doubts about the legitimacy and impact of the purported expulsions.

The NPP General Secretary, Justin Kodua Frimpong, stated that Adorye, Ntow, Saddique, and Asamoa have automatically forfeited their membership in accordance with certain constitutional provisions. The NPP calls on its members to remain committed to their duties as outlined in Article 3(5) of the party’s constitution, and urges them to unite and gain the support of Ghanaians to achieve victory in the 2024 general elections.
