Dormaahene, Osagyefo ƆseadeƐyƆ Dr. Agyemang Badu, is prepared to forego his salary as a judge if the Western world doesn’t support Ghana because of the anti-LGBTQI+ bill. He urged President Akufo-Addo to sign the bill, stating that many countries prosper despite Western sanctions for banning LGBTQ activities.
During the Sumaman Akwantukɛse Festival at Suma Ahenkuro, the Dormaahene, Osagyefo ƆseadeƐyƆ Dr. Agyemang Badu, expressed his readiness to forgo his salary as a judge if the Western world does not offer assistance to Ghana regarding the anti-LGBTQI+ bill.
As the President of the Bono Regional House of Chiefs and a High Court judge, the chief emphasized the importance of President Nana Akufo Addo signing the bill into law, regardless of potential backlash from foreign donors. He suggested that the president’s refusal to do so could be misinterpreted as support for LGBTQ activities.
The chief and other supporters of the bill are determined to pressure the President to sign it, even willing to face significant risks. They pointed out that many countries have successfully banned LGBTQ activities despite opposition from the western world.
At the festival, the Omanhene of Suma traditional area, Odeneho Dr Afram Bempong III, highlighted the need for traditional laws to be enforced until the bill becomes law. He also called upon former President John Mahama to address infrastructure issues in the Jaman North district if he wins the upcoming election, including improving roads and establishing a cashew processing factory.
Former President Mahama assured the chiefs that their requests would be considered by the next NDC government if elected, promising to address the region’s needs.
