Barker-V granted 20k bail

Oliver Barker-Vormawor, the convener of the Democracy Hub protest, has been granted bail set at GH¢20,000 with two sureties.

He was arrested alongside 52 others on September 23, 2024, and charged with causing public disturbances during the protest. As part of his bail conditions, he must report to the police twice a week.

Barker-Vormawor faces multiple charges, including stealing, unlawful assembly, unlawful damage, assault on a public officer, and offensive conduct conducive to a breach of peace.

Initially denied bail by the Accra Circuit Court, he was subsequently remanded by the High Court following an appeal from his lawyers. The High Court judge expressed concerns about the possibility of reoffending, as Barker-Vormawor was already out on bail for treason charges at the time. However, after his legal team reiterated the bail application, it was ultimately granted.
