Drama in Court as man sings for mercy

An unexpected scene unfolded at the Accra Circuit Court when Francis Lamptey, a labourer charged with causing harm, opted to sing two original songs in a bid to appeal for mercy before the judgment in his case.

Standing before the court, Lamptey sang, “Court two judge, grant me justice, court judge grant me freedom…” as the courtroom watched in silence.

After the judgment was delivered, Lamptey again sang two songs, this time expressing his gratitude.

Lamptey had pleaded not guilty to charges of causing harm. However, at the close of the trial, Judge Isaac Addo acquitted and discharged him, citing a lack of sufficient evidence.

Upon hearing the verdict, Lamptey bowed in respect, thanking the judge, “God bless you, my Lord, thank you, my Lord.”

Judge Addo, in his ruling, advised Lamptey to be cautious in his future actions. He noted that the prosecution had only presented one witness—the case investigator—and that the victim, Ayuba Shaibu, had failed to testify in court.

After Lamptey testified in his own defense, he did not call any additional witnesses. The court concluded that the defense had successfully raised doubt regarding the prosecution’s case, leading to the acquittal.

Lamptey had been accused of stabbing Shaibu in the left cheek with a knife following a heated argument at Lashibi Shalom Spot in Tema West Municipality on August 25, 2024.
