Edward Obeng Kenzo replaces Ing. Antwi Darkwa as Acting VRA CEO

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo has been appointed as the Acting Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the Volta River Authority (VRA), according to African Editors’ sources.

A formal handover ceremony took place on Wednesday, February 5, where outgoing CEO Emmanuel Antwi Darkwa officially transferred leadership responsibilities to Obeng-Kenzo.

This appointment follows a government directive, as the VRA board has not yet been constituted. Obeng-Kenzo will remain in an acting capacity until a formal decision is made by the incoming board.

This leadership transition represents a pivotal moment for the VRA, with Obeng-Kenzo now responsible for guiding the organization towards its goal of providing reliable, sustainable energy solutions for Ghana. His permanent confirmation as CEO will depend on the decision of the new board.

Profile – Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo

Edward Ekow Obeng-Kenzo is a seasoned business executive with over 24 years of experience in the power sector. He has a proven track record in leading cross-functional teams to achieve exceptional results in highly competitive environments, consistently driving continuous improvement and delivering increased return on investment (RoI) and customer satisfaction.

Obeng-Kenzo holds a Master’s Degree in Public Administration (MPA) and a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering (BSc Hons) from the Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology. He is also a member of the Ghana Institution of Engineering.

Before his current appointment, Obeng-Kenzo held several key roles, including Director of Thermal Generation SBU, Plant Manager at the Tema Thermal Power Complex (TTPC), Operations Manager at TTPC, and Project Manager for the Tema Thermal 2 Power Project (49.5MW Siemens Emergency Power Plant).

In his new role, Obeng-Kenzo will provide strategic direction and leadership across the various departments within VRA’s Engineering and Operations branch, driving innovation and efficiency to ensure VRA remains a market leader. His responsibilities span across several key departments, including Hydro Generation, Engineering Services, Technical Services, Environment & Sustainable Development, Commercial Services, Thermal Generation, Strategic Projects and New Business, Utility Services, Water Resources, and Renewable Energy.
