Ghanaian Boxing Legend Clement Ike ‘Bazooka’ Quartey has died in the United Kingdom on Saturday, November 2, 2024, as confirmed by the Ghana Boxing Federation (GBF). He was 54 years old, but details regarding his passing have not been revealed.

Quartey had a remarkable professional career from 1988 to 2006, competing in 42 bouts with a record of 37 wins, 4 losses, and 1 draw, including 31 knockouts. Known as “Bazooka,” he fought in the WBA welterweight, light-welterweight, and light-middleweight divisions.

He achieved significant success by holding the WBA welterweight title for four years, from 1994 to 1998, and was celebrated for his powerful jabs. A highlight of his career came in 1999 when he faced American star Oscar De La Hoya at the Thomas & Mack Center in Las Vegas.

Beyond his professional accolades, Quartey also claimed a silver medal in the men’s Light Welterweight (63.5 kg) category at the 1980 Summer Olympics in Moscow.
