Tokyo2020: Takyi wins bronze for Ghana after 29 years
Ghanaian Featherweight Boxer Samuel Takyi, 20, has won a Bronze Medal in the 2020 Olympic Games in Tokyo, despite losing the semifinals bout against the USA’s Ragan Duke on Tuesday dawn.
Takyi, who started the semifinals against Duke on a slow pace just as he did in the quarter-final but came into the second round strongly. But Duke was too smart and caught Takyi off-guard and landed some incisive punches.

Duke won the bout on a split decision by judges, 4-1. In Olympics games both the winner and the loser of the semi-final of the boxing wins medal, hence, Samuel Takyi has won Ghana’s first medal since the Ghana football team won bronze in Barcelona 1992.
The 20-year-old has also become the fourth Ghanaian boxer to win medal in Olympics. This feat has previously been achieved by Clement Quartey – 1960- Silver, Eddie Blay – 1964- Bronze and Prince Amartey – 1972 – Bronze.
