Ken Agyepong’s threats to Joy FM is unacceptable, let him Apologise- Bombande
Senior United Nations Mediation Advisor Emmanuel Habuka Bombande has condemned continues threats against media practitioners by Assin Central legislator Kennedy Agyepong and urged him to render unqualified apology Joy FM’s Erasmus Asare Donkor.
His comment follows public declaration by the firebrand Assin Central Member of Parliament Kennedy Agyepong that Joy News Journalist Erasmus Asare Donkor should be beaten for his testimony at ongoing Justice George Kingsley Koomson-led Committee tasked to probe unfortunate Ejura shootings.
Mr. Agyepong has made similar threats against the Tiger Eye PI Journalist Ahmed Suale after which he was murdered by unidentified hands, a situation many referred to as worrying.
Mr. Agyepong who is currently the Chairman of Defense and Interior Committee of Parliament said in video that has gone viral on social media that “If I were the president, I will let them beat the hell out of that Joy FM journalist because of what he went to say at the committee “.
In a sharp reaction to the development, the renowned Conflict Resolution Expert Emmanuel Bombande said “The police should provide security for him. But, threat against journalists is completely unacceptable”.
He noted that NPP should call Mr. Agyepong to order and let him issue unqualified apology to the media. Media doesn’t ask for favours to enable it work. It’s not in the interest of the NPP to allow somebody from their fold to continue to threaten the media”.
Bombande noted that “I don’t think Kennedy Agyepong has the temperament to be the Chair of Defense and Interior Committee of parliament “.
Bombande is of the view that there must a safe environment for all journalists to work without fear and must be persistent.
