LGBTQ+ law to be passed this year- Bagbin

Speaker of the 8th Parliament, Alban Kingsford Sumana Bagbin yesterday assured the general public that the LGBTQ+ Bill would be passed into law this year.

LGBTQ+ has become a topical issue on the airwaves in Ghana due foreign pressures to legalise homosexuality. Alban Bagbin is on record to have said ” LGBTQ+ is worse than Covid-19 pandemic”.

Both Bagbin and Former Speaker of Parliament, Prof. Aaron Mike Ocquaye have publicly declared that they will not kowtow to foreign pressures to legalise homosexuality in Ghana because it offends the Ghanaian culture, heritage, tradition and practices.

According to him, the eight Parliament is committed to criminalizing the activities of people who indulge themselves in LGBTQ+.

The latest avowed agenda by the experienced legislator Bagbin to enact a new law on homosexuality comes at period a section of the public have argued that the current law on the subject matter does not fully cover all aspects of LGBTQ+ cases, demanding urgent legislation to fill in the gaps in the existing law.

Meanwhile, Amnesty International has registered its displeasure about the decision of Ghana’s to enact a new law to criminalise both advocacy and groupings of LGBTQ+ community in Ghana.
