Osei-Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu resigns as Maj. Leader

Osei Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu, the Majority Leader and MP for the Suame constituency in the Ashanti region, has officially stepped down from his role as the leader of the majority caucus in Parliament.

Sources within the New Patriotic Party (NPP) hierarchy have disclosed that he voluntarily offered to resign during a meeting of the NPP caucus in Parliament and the Executive, which included President Akufo-Addo.

The Deputy Majority Leader and MP for Efutu, Alexander Afenyo-Markin, will now assume the position of leadership.

This decision comes after tensions arose between the caucus and the executive regarding rumored changes to the leadership of the majority caucus.

The move was met with opposition from First Deputy Speaker, Joe Osei-Owusu and others, who were content with the current leadership led by Kyei-Mensah-Bonsu and vowed to resist any imposed changes.

Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Bagbin, emphasized the importance of parties having a say in appointing caucus leaders, stating that party involvement is crucial in the decision-making process.

The National Council of the NPP is scheduled to be briefed on this development during their meeting on Friday.
