Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children’s Heart Foundation promises assistance for children’s cardiac procedures

The Shen Yang and Shen Yuet Children’s Heart Foundation, founded by Mr. YC Shen of Sunda International Group of Companies, has pledged to fund a minimum of 30 surgeries for children with congenital heart defects by the end of the year at the National Cardiothoracic Centre (NCTC) of Korle-Bu Teaching Hospital. Since its establishment last year, the foundation has already sponsored 41 surgeries, exceeding their original goal of providing 20 surgeries annually at $6,000 each.

During a visit to the NCTC on July 1, 2024, Mr. Shen expressed his family’s joy in supporting families facing financial difficulties due to their children’s medical needs. As a parent of a child with a congenital heart defect, Mr. Shen was inspired to help Ghanaian children in need after being brought to President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo’s attention.

Mr. Shen reassured the hospital management of the foundation’s commitment to covering the costs of surgeries at NCTC. Dr. Kow Entsua-Mensah, Director of NCTC, praised the foundation for their significant investment in child healthcare and encouraged other organizations to follow suit.

Mr. Herbert Mensah, President of World Rugby’s African Association, commended the foundation for surpassing their initial goal and praised Mr. Shen and his family for their inspirational actions. The beneficiaries expressed their gratitude to Mr. YC Shen for his initiative, and some items were donated to them at the end of the tour at Korle-Bu NCTC.
