Majority falling on their own dagger -Minority
The Minority Caucus strongly criticized the Majority Caucus for making what they described as “bizarre and unfortunate” accusations against Speaker of Parliament, Alban Bagbin. They dismissed the Majority’s claims as false and misleading.
The rift between the Majority Caucus and the Speaker began when Mr. Bagbin announced the suspension of the approval process for Ministers and Deputy Ministers of State nominated by the President. This decision was made in response to a pending court application seeking an injunction against the approval process.
In response to the suspension, the Majority Caucus accused the Speaker of hindering government operations by preventing the President from appointing capable individuals to assist in running the Government machinery.
The Minority Caucus issued a statement denouncing the Majority’s accusations as deliberate distortions and propaganda meant to incite public sentiment against the Speaker and the Minority. They clarified that the Speaker’s decision was in line with precedent set by President Akufo-Addo and was appropriate given the circumstances.
The Minority also refuted the Majority Caucus’ claims that the economy would suffer and government business was being undermined, labeling them as baseless and false. They emphasized the Speaker’s commitment to following due process and the rule of law in parliamentary proceedings.
The Minority highlighted the current state of the nation under the Akufo-Addo/Bawumia government, pointing out issues such as a collapsed economy, high exchange rates, elevated lending rates, low business confidence, rising youth unemployment, high inflation, shrinkflation practices by companies, and alarming food inflation.
