Transport fares reduced by 15.3% effective Monday

The Ghana Private Road and Transport Union (GPRTU) together with other Transport Unions have unanimously reduced transport fares by 15.3 percent based on the current reduction in petroleum products at the pump which takes effect from Monday.

The reduction came after a consistent complaints by commuters and passengers due to the significant reduction of fuel prices both petrol and diesel in the past few weeks at the pump.

In a statement signed by both General Secretaries GPRTU and GRTCC, Godfred Abulbire and Emmanuel Ohene Yeboah explained that due to the significant reduction of petroleum products in the past few weeks, it became necessary to also reduce transport fares after series of negotiations with the Transport Ministry.

The statement further indicated that the new fares covers the following transport services like haulage, inter-city (Trotro), inter-city (long distance) and shared taxis.

” We therefore request all commercial and transport operators to comply with the new fares and post same at their various terminals. We further request all operators, commuters and the general public to kindly cooperate for a successful implementation of the new fares”, the statement noted.

It again assured transport operators and the general public that they would continue to work in their interest.
