The Senior Staff Association-Universities of Ghana (SSA-UoG) and the Federation of Universities Senior Staff Association of Ghana (FUSAG) have initiated an indefinite industrial action effective immediately. This decision stems from the government's failure to address concerns regarding pensions and the reversal of an unlawfully terminated overtime allowance. During a press conference at the University of Ghana in Accra, Isaac Donkoh, the National Chairman of the SSA-UoG, laid blame on the government for the consequences of their announced actions. "As leaders, we are compelled to declare an indefinite strike," he explained, adding, "The government has neglected to release our tier 2 pension to our fund managers since February 2023. We are urging the government to promptly release all outstanding arrears to our fund managers, along with the accrued interest at a three percent rate." Donkoh further stated, "We also request that the government recalculates the accrued interest between 2010 and 2016 as previously agreed upon on July 25, 2022. Furthermore, we demand the government to expeditiously settle all outstanding arrears for our staff members on pension from 2020 to 2023." "Lastly," he continued, "we call upon the Fair Wages and Salaries Commission and the Ghana Tertiary Education Commission to retract the letters dated November 7th and November 20th respectively." Concluding his statement, Donkoh asserted, "In light of these circumstances, we instruct our members to remain at home until further notice. Effective today, nobody should report to work until further notice."
