CLOGSAG calls off strike after securing ‘Neutrality Allowance’

Civil and Local Government Staff Association of Ghana (CLOGSAG) has called off their three-week-old strike after their demands were met. CLOGSAG declared a full-blown strike over government failure to pay their ‘Neutrality allowance’.

The industrial action has since received backlash from many who concluded that the demand for neutrality allowance is awkward, perverse with little or no basis. But, CLOGSAG who argued that critics are scratching the surface of a rather serious matter, revealed government has been dragging its feet when it comes to fulfilling already negotiated arraignment despite the National Labour Commission’s order to the Finance Ministry to give green light for payments by Controller and Accountant General’s Department.

The leadership of the union met with the Parliamentary Select Committee on Local Government to discuss issues relating to the industrial action earlier this week but insisted they will continue the strike until the money hits banks accounts of members.

In a statement announcing an end to the strike, the leadership of CLOGSAG, said: “The demand for the Ministry of Finance to direct the Controller and Accountant General to effect payment of the agreed allowance has been met on 11 May 2022. By this decision, the strike has been called off.”

Members of CLOGSAG have, thus, been asked to report to work from Monday, 16 May.
