NPP Caucus Demands Answers
Minority Leader Alexander Afenyo-Markin is expected to face members of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) Parliamentary Caucus this morning Monday August 24, 2026 over allegations of extortion levelled against him by Ghana Gold Board (GOLDBOD) Chief Executive Officer, Sammy Gyamfi.
The allegations have triggered concern among some senior members of the NPP Caucus, who are said to be demanding further clarification from their leader.
Allegations Intensify
Mr Gyamfi made the allegations at the seat of the Presidency while addressing journalists in response to claims by the Minority in Parliament, led by Mr Afenyo-Markin, concerning reported losses linked to the Bank of Ghana’s Domestic Gold Purchase Programme. The GoldBod CEO later repeated the allegations during an interview on JoyNews’ Newsfile, challenging the Minority Leader to take legal action against him if he considered the claims defamatory.
Afenyo-Markin Denies Claims
Mr Afenyo-Markin has categorically denied the allegations and indicated that he is considering his legal options.
However, his denial has reportedly not brought the matter to a close within the NPP Parliamentary Caucus. Some senior MPs are said to believe that the Minority Leader should provide additional explanations to his colleagues.
NPP Caucus Meeting Scheduled
Pressure from some members has reportedly led to the scheduling of a meeting of the NPP Parliamentary Caucus this morning, ahead of Parliament’s sitting later in the afternoon.
