AFCON 2023: Osimhen, Boniface to lead Nigeria’s attack
Nigeria’s team for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations has been announced, with Vctor Osimhen leading the country’s attacking lineup. Osimhen, who recently won the coveted title of Africa’s player of the year, is set to showcase his talent alongside other notable players in Ivory Coast. This tournament also marks the return of 25-year-old Osimhen, who missed out on the 2021 edition due to injuries and Covid-19.
Joining Osimhen in the squad is 22-year-old Victor Boniface from Bayern Leverkusen, who has been in impressive form, scoring 16 goals and providing eight assists across all competitions this season.
The 2023 AfCON finals will take place from January 13 to February 11. Nigeria, a three-time African champion, is placed in Group A alongside Ivory Coast, Equatorial Guinea, and Guinea-Bissau. The Super Eagles, under the late Stephen Keshi, last clinched the Afcon title in 2013. As one of the favorites, Nigeria aims to reclaim the championship in Ivory Coast.
