AFCON2021: Morocco sends Ghana back to drawing board after 1:0 win
Morocco has defeated Ghana in the opening fixture of Group C in the African Cup of Nations ( AFCON) tournament by a lone goal courtesy Sofiane Boufal in the Stade Ahmadou Ahidjo.
The first half ended without any goal and no clear-cut chances.
The second half began quite well for the Black Stars with some impressive runs into the area of the Moroccans, but couldn’t create any goalscoring opportunity.
Just when many thought the game could end in a draw, a determined Moroccan side found the back of the net in the 83rd minute through Sofiane Boufal.
The Black Stars tried to get the equalizer but it was rather the Moroccan who nearly double the lead, but a good goalkeeping from Wollacott denied them.
Ghana for the first time in many tournaments is been tagged as underdogs, and the lost to Morocco wouldn’t surprise many football fans at home..
Ghana will have the opportunity to make amends in the remaining two matches against Comoros and Gabon.
