Ex-EC Chair Charlotte Osei installed as Safohen

Former Electoral Commission (EC) Chairperson, Charlotte Kesson-Smith Osei, has been enstooled as Safohen of Nkum Asafo Group Number 4. In a Facebook post on June 8, she shared her excitement at the opportunity, signing off as Safohen Nana Ama Kesson #nkumasafo #4. The post included pictures of her adorned in traditional kente attire as a Queen Mother, brandishing a whip as a symbol of leadership alongside other individuals.

Additionally, Ms. Osei expressed her anticipation for this year’s Fetu Afahye festival, set to take place from September 1 to 7, 2024. Fetu Afahye is an annual celebration observed by the people and royals of the Cape Coast Traditional Area, in Ghana’s Central Region. Festivities commence in late August, with the main event transpiring on the first Saturday of September.

Preceding the festival, the chief, known as the Omanhen, undergoes a period of seclusion where he seeks spiritual guidance and medical attention to ensure his readiness for the festivities. The Omanhen emerges from seclusion with grandeur, offering prayers to the 77 deities of the Oguaa state to bless the upcoming activities.

There is a good reason why you should support the African Editors. Not everyone can afford to pay for news right now. That is why we keep our journalism open for everyone to read, including in Ghana. If this is you, please continue to read for free. But if you are able to, then there are three good reasons to support us today.

1. Our quality, journalism is a scrutinising force at a time when the rich and powerful are getting away with more and more.

2. We are independent and have no billionaire owner pulling the strings, so your money directly powers our reporting.

3. It doesn’t cost much, and takes less time than it took to read this message.

Help power the African Editors' journalism for the years to come, whether with a small sum or a larger one. If you can, please support us on a monthly basis from just 1 Ghana Cedi through mobile money number: 0599896099/ +23359989609 and you can be rest assured that you’re making a big impact every single month in support of open, independent journalism.
