FIFA fines Ghana 5k Swiss Francs

FIFA has fined Ghana 5,000 Swiss Francs for breaching Article 17 & 58 of the FIFA Disciplinary Code 2023 Edition. This fine was imposed by the Disciplinary Committee of FIFA. The breach occurred after the FIFA World Cup qualifier between Ghana and Madagascar at the Baba Yara Sports Stadium on November 17, 2023.

Specifically, there was an intruder onto the pitch and an unapproved and unaccredited number of people inside the inner perimeter. Some of these individuals joined the players in celebrating Inaki Williams’s winning goal in the closing stages of the game. Despite the breach, FIFA commended the security service for their proactive handling of the situation.

However, they also called on the stadium management to improve the internet facility. It is worth noting that Ghana has been previously fined by the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for a similar incident in November 2019. On that occasion, a soccer fan invaded the field of play during the Black Stars’ win over South Africa in a 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifier at the Cape Coast Stadium. CAF fined Ghana $10,000 for that incident.
