Fueling change through ShePower to promote female diversity and inclusion

Accra – 12th March 2024: In line with its commitment towards female diversity and inclusion, Vivo Energy Ghana, the Shell Licensee in partnership with HR Focus Universe has joined the call to inspire inclusion and diversity through the launch of its ShePower project geared towards promoting female diversity and empowering women and girls to own their growth.

Under the theme, ‘creating a culture of inclusivity: together we rise’, the ShePower project aims to create an inclusive environment where women can thrive, contribute their unique perspectives, and shape their future. This ties in with the Sustainable Development Goal 5 to achieve gender equality and empower all women and girls. Some of the initiatives under this project includes mentorship sessions, capacity building workshops, career guidance and counselling and leadership programmes aimed at addressing cultural, mindset and behaviour shifts and believing that women can break the glass ceiling.

Speaking at the launch, Human Resources Manager of Vivo Energy Ghana, Mercy Amoah, reiterated the company’s commitment to creating an enabling environment where every woman can thrive, be heard, respected, and valued. “In our strategic direction, female diversity has been called out as an enabler to achieving our vision of becoming the leading and most respected energy business in Africa. For instance, every single one of our operating units across over 20 countries have a female diversity measurable target”, she said.

The Special Guest and Chief Executive Officer of LAINE Group, Dr. Mrs Ellen Hagan, in her keynote address commended Vivo Energy Ghana for taking a step towards the long journey which is building a more inclusive oil and gas industry in Ghana. “The ShePower project will not only empower and celebrate women in the oil and gas industry who are making waves and inspiring meaningful change in the industry but will sensitize young minds on the great potential and opportunities for making impact through the oil and gas industry”, she emphasized. Drawing from her wealth of experience, she encouraged women to be hungry for leadership positions and be aware of their self-worth and purpose.

With a vision of becoming the leading and most respected energy business in Africa, Vivo Energy Ghana and HR Focus Universe will leverage expertise and resources to drive transformation and build a future where barriers are broken, and dreams are realized.
