Ghana Gas hosts Parliamentary Committee on operational gains
Western Region engagement
Ghana National Gas Company Limited (Ghana Gas) recently hosted members of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, providing them with a comprehensive insight into its operations and achievements. The Committee began its visit to the Western Region with a courtesy call on the Regional Minister, Joseph Nelson, where they outlined the purpose of their engagement.
CEO highlights operational gains
During the tour of the Gas Processing Plant (GPP), Ghana Gas Chief Executive Officer, Judith Adjobah Blay, welcomed the lawmakers and emphasized the importance of close collaboration between policymakers and industry players to bolster Ghana’s energy sector.
Ms. Blay briefed the Committee on the company’s operational performance, noting a significant increase in gas production over the past year. According to her, output has risen from 100 million standard cubic feet per day (MMSCFD) to 120 MMSCFD, thanks to improved plant reliability and reduced downtime.
Challenges in the sector
Despite these gains, Ms. Blay highlighted ongoing challenges, particularly tariff constraints, which continue to impact revenue generation and limit reinvestment capacity. “Ghana Gas is ever ready. Since last year, our production has gone up,” she said, stressing that operational improvements under the current administration have enhanced efficiency at the plant.
Parliamentary support assured
Chairman of the Parliamentary Select Committee on Energy, Emmanuel Kwasi Bedzrah, commended Ghana Gas for its performance and assured the company of Parliament’s backing in tackling its challenges.
“We have seen that Ghana Gas is on top of its game. They have our full support, and we will work to address the challenges raised,” he stated.
