Ghanaian Journalist jailed for 14-days

Accra-Ghana-based XYZ Broadcasting Company Ltd has expressed total shock over the 14-day jail term handed to its Journalist Oheneba Boamah Bennie with 3,000 cedis.

A statement signed and issued by CEO XYZ Broadcasting Company Ltd Bernie Anti said “XYZ Broadcasting is shock at custodial sentence slapped on Oheneba Boamah Bennie plus a fine of 3,000 Ghana cedis or two week jail term for contempt of court.

According to them, Management will review the verdict and take the necessary step based on the advice from XYZ’s lawyers.

“The verdict will not dampen our collective resolve to speak the truth. Oheneba is in good spirit “.

Accra High Court Criminal Division on Tuesday sentenced a popular Power FM, a subsidiary of XYZ Broadcasting Ltd’s Journalist Oheneba Boamah to 14-days in prison.

Apart from that, he is also expected to pay GHS3000 to the court.

According to reports, Oheneba Boama posted alleged secret videos regarding the 2020 election petition featuring President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo and some Supreme Court Judges in a secret meeting.

The Journalist created the impression that President Akufo-Addo had met the Judges to influence them with bribes in order for them to rule the 2020 election petition in his favour.

It later emerged that the video was fake and defamatory.

The journalist who was sued by the Attorney-General, and Minister of Justice, Godfred Yeboah Dame pleaded guilty and accepted that the video’s source was not authentic.
