Let’s protect public purse – Chief of Staff

Ghana’s Chief of Staff, Frema Osei Opare has charged Controller and Accountant General Department to protect the public purse, make judicious use of resuorces and prudent management public and donor -funds. The Chief of staff was speaking at the opening ceremony of the annual conference of the Controller and Accountants General’s Department at Kwahu Nkwatia in the Eastern region.

Speaking at the ceremony, the Controller and Accountant General, Kwasi Kwaning Bosompem pointed out that, the role of accountants in building economic fortunes cannot be over emphasised. He stated that, globally economy of every country has experienced an economic downturn, for which reason the government took some measures to address the situation, disclosing that, the 30% reduction in salaries of the President, Vice president and government appointees, among others has contributed over 19million cedis since the issuance of the directives and its implementation. He however urged all the workers at his outfit to be selfless in discharge of their duties.

The Director General of State Interest Governance Authority, Ambassador Edward Boateng raised concerned about non performance of most of the state agencies over the years which were aways running at a lost due to lack of committement and proper managerial skills.

The Chief of staff, Frema Osei Opare, speaking on the event which has the theme; Building a sustainable economy, the role of the public sector accountant, said the importance of the Controller and Accountant General’s Department in getting the government back on cannot be overemphasized. She therefore used the opportunity and appealed to them to work hard to achieve the objectives of the government and also charged them to endeavor to adhere strictly to the judicious use of resources and prudent management of public and donor funds.
