Light fishing is illegal, stop it- Hawa Koomson
Minister of Fisheries and Acqua Culture Hawa Koomson has said that her outfit would not countenance light fishing on our sea since such practices have dire consequences on the fishing industry.
However, a monitoring by African Editors on Friday 30 July 2021 indicated that her visit to Elmina with food items for Fishermen of this community has been greeted with rejection with shouts of dislike to her items,” Y3ngyee ooooo y3ngyee” meaning ” We would not accept it”.
Meanwhile, the Legislator has described this method of fishing as illegal and said that it has negative impact on the growth of the industry. Therefore, the Ministry intends to prescribe standard method in fishing.
