Party unveils activities for NDC month 2026
The General Secretary of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), Fifi Fiavi Kwetey, has officially announced a series of nationwide activities to commemorate NDC Month 2026, describing the observance as a period of reflection, remembrance, recommitment and renewal of the ideals that shaped the party’s political tradition. Addressing members of the media at the NDC Headquarters in Adabraka, Accra, on Friday, May 15, 2026, Hon. Kwetey said the annual observance is intended to reconnect Ghanaians, especially the youth, to the principles of accountability, patriotism, social justice and democratic governance associated with the June 4 uprising.

Significance of May 15 and the June 4 legacy
According to the General Secretary, the observance begins on May 15 because of its historical significance in Ghana’s political evolution, particularly as a precursor to the formation of the Provisional National Defence Council (PNDC), which later gave rise to the NDC.
He noted that this year’s theme, “Strengthening State Institutions: Lessons from the June 4, 1979 Uprising,” reflects the nation’s ongoing efforts to rebuild confidence in governance and public institutions. Hon. Kwetey emphasized that the June 4 uprising represented a national demand for integrity, discipline, accountability and responsible leadership — values he said remain relevant in contemporary governance.

Reset Agenda linked to June 4 principles
The NDC General Secretary connected the ideals of June 4 to the government’s ongoing Reset Agenda under President John Dramani Mahama.
He explained that the agenda seeks to restore public confidence in state institutions, deepen democratic governance, improve transparency and ensure that governance better serves ordinary Ghanaians. According to him, the principles of probity, accountability and people-centered governance remain inseparable from the broader national reset currently being pursued.

Tribute paid to former President Jerry John Rawlings
A significant portion of the address paid tribute to the founder of the NDC and former President of Ghana, Jerry John Rawlings. Hon. Kwetey praised the late statesman for his courage, patriotism and commitment to democratic governance and social justice. He described Rawlings’ legacy as one that continues to inspire generations within and beyond the NDC. He added that this year’s activities would provide another opportunity to honour the enduring vision and contribution of the former president to Ghana’s democratic journey.

Major activities scheduled across the country

The NDC announced a series of commemorative and educational events to take place throughout June in collaboration with cadres, community leaders, traditional authorities, youth groups and civil society organizations.
Public Lecture in Banda Constituency
The first major event will take place on June 3 with a public lecture in the Banda Constituency. The lecture will examine the historical impact of the June 4 uprising, the role of state institutions in accountable governance and the local relevance of the uprising to the people of the area.

June 4 ceremonial activities
On June 4, the party will organize a ceremonial flag raising, wreath laying, lighting of the perpetual flame and a grand durbar involving chiefs and residents of the Bono Region.
The event is expected to symbolize remembrance, unity and commitment to democratic accountability. NDC Day to Focus on Youth and Women
June 10 will be observed as NDC Day, with activities aimed at revisiting the ideological foundations of the party while encouraging participation in democratic governance, particularly among women and young people.
Cadres Day Celebration in Kumasi
The party also announced that June 19 will be commemorated as Cadres Day in Kumasi under the theme: “Ensuring Transparent Governance: The Role of Cadres.” The event will focus on the responsibility of cadres and grassroots activists in promoting accountability, transparency and national integrity.
Founder’s Day to Honour Rawlings
The climax of the month-long observance will take place on June 22 with Founder’s Day celebrations.
Activities will include the naming of the NDC headquarters after former President Jerry John Rawlings and the unveiling of a bust in his honour to recognize his contribution to the establishment and growth of the party.

Call for unity and participation
Hon. Kwetey urged all NDC members, sympathizers and well-meaning Ghanaians to actively participate in the activities throughout the month.
He stressed that the commemorations should not merely be seen as ceremonial events but as opportunities for political education, patriotic renewal and national reflection. The General Secretary further called on party supporters in host communities to mobilize and support the activities to ensure their success.

Commitment to democratic governance
Reaffirming the NDC’s political philosophy, Hon. Kwetey stated that the party remains committed to building a stronger Ghana founded on social justice, accountability and inclusive governance.
He concluded with a call for unity and collective responsibility in sustaining the spirit of June 4 and advancing the national reset agenda.
Together, let us keep alive the spirit of June 4. Together, let us deepen the Reset Agenda. And together, let us continue working toward a more just, accountable and prosperous Ghana,” he declared.
He ended the engagement with the party’s solidarity slogan: “Forward ever, backward never.”
