Probe Oheneba’s Kumah-‘poison’ claim-Ashanti NPP to Police

The Ashanti Regional Caucus of Constituency Chairmen for the New Patriotic Party (NPP) has released a statement expressing their concerns over recent allegations made by media personalities, specifically Oheneba Nana Asiedu of Wontumi TV/FM, regarding the death of John Ampontuah Kumah, the Deputy Minister of Finance and Member of Parliament for Ejisu.

The statement, signed by Mr Abraham Kofi Oduro-Kyeremateng, Secretary of the Ashanti Regional Caucus of Constituency Chairmen of NPP, was issued during a period of mourning for the late Deputy Finance Minister. It condemns the baseless campaign alleging poisoning and linking it to the NPP running mate issue.

The NPP Chairmen stressed the need for evidence to support such serious allegations and called for an investigation by the Ghana Police Command and National Security.

They also called upon Bernard Antwi-Boasiako, the Regional NPP Chairman, to step in and address Oheneba Nana Asiedu and other presenters at Wontumi Media over their actions.

The Chairmen expressed their worries that these unfounded claims could cause division and anxiety within the party, especially in the Ashanti Region.

Furthermore, they urged both regional and national party leaders to intervene and advise Chairman Wontumi and his media team to cease spreading these damaging allegations.

They cautioned against tarnishing the reputations of party leaders and members who have worked hard for the party.

The statement also addressed Oheneba Nana Asiedu’s ultimatum to the party leader, Dr Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia, regarding the selection of a running mate for the upcoming elections. The Chairmen stated that Mr Asiedu had no authority to issue such ultimatums and should keep his media work separate from the party’s internal decisions.

In conclusion, the Ashanti Regional Caucus of Constituency Chairmen extended their heartfelt condolences to the family of Mr John Ampontuah Kumah and other deceased patriots.
