Speaker recalls Parliament
The Speaker of Parliament, Alban Sumana Kingsford Bagbin, has directed Parliament to return from recess to consider urgent parliamentary business.
Sitting Scheduled for August 24–28
In a notice dated August 12, 2026, and issued by the Office of the Speaker, Mr Bagbin said the recall was being made pursuant to the powers conferred on the Speaker under Order 58(4) of the Standing Orders of the Parliament of Ghana. According to the notice, Parliament will be recalled to sit from Monday, August 24, at 12 noon, to Friday, August 28, 2026. The sittings will take place at Parliament House in Accra, with lawmakers expected to deliberate on matters considered urgent enough to warrant Parliament’s return from recess.
Nature of Business Not Disclosed
The notice, however, did not indicate the specific nature of the urgent parliamentary business for which the House has been recalled. The absence of details leaves the issues to be considered unclear, with further communication from Parliament expected to provide more information ahead of the scheduled sittings. The recall means Members of Parliament will interrupt their recess and report to the House for the five-day sitting period beginning August 24.
