Teenage pregnancy in Abomayaw & Asempanaye
Headmaster of Abomayaw has laid the blame at the door steps of irresponsible parents when it comes to the high rate of teenage pregnancy in Abomayaw & Asempanaye communities.
He said this when ‘As I Grow Foundation’ donated some school uniforms to pupils in Abomayaw and Asempanaye in the Asuogyaman District.
Between 2016 and 2020, Ghana recorded 542,131 amongst adolescent girls aged 15-19 years and 13,444 pregnancies amongst young teenagers aged 10-14 years according to the Ghana Health Service District Health Information Management Health System (DHIMS).
Not only are these numbers worrying, but also a critical concern that has life-time ramifications on the life, health, wealth and well-being of the adolescents, their children, families, communities, and the country at large.
The situation is not different in Abomayaw and Asempanaye D/A basic schools in the Asuogyaman district.
The headmaster of Abomayaw D/A basic school Nathan Addison talked about how teenage pregnancy is threatening their school and he blames irresponsible parents as the cause of high rate of teenage pregnancy in their communities.
Some parents also share their experiences and advise these little girls to be mindful of the effect that comes with teenage pregnancy.
The CEO of As I grow Isaac Nana Bekoe also talked about how teenage pregnancy breeds poverty in our communities and advise parents to desist from having sexual intercourse in the same room they share with their kids thinking they are fast asleep.
