US Prez honours Kenyan leader William Ruto

At a White House state dinner on Thursday, President Joe Biden and his wife Jill hosted Kenyan President William Ruto. The event featured breathtaking views of Washington, an impressive menu, and appearances from celebrities such as LeVar Burton, Roger Goodell, and Bill Clinton.

Former President Barack Obama briefly attended the dinner but did not stay. During his toast to Ruto, Biden humorously mentioned Obama’s departure.

This was Biden’s sixth and largest state dinner as he works to strengthen ties with African nations. Ruto’s visit coincided with Kenya’s planned deployment of troops to Haiti in support of UN efforts to address gang violence.

During the dinner, Ruto emphasized the importance of standing together for democracy amidst global challenges. Biden expressed his gratitude for the African guests, noting that he and Jill were honored to host such esteemed company.

While Biden was unable to visit Africa last year as promised, he reassured Ruto of his intention to visit the continent in February after his potential re-election, showing optimism about his upcoming campaign.
