Europe-based reparations organisations honour Ghana’s presidential special envoy

Ghana’s Presidential Special Envoy for Reparations, Ambassador Ekwow Spio-Garbrah, has been honoured in The Hague for his contribution to Pan-African development and reparatory justice.

The Europe Pan African Forum for People of African Descent (EPAF-PAD) and the National Reparations Commission Netherlands (NARECO NL) jointly presented Ambassador Spio-Garbrah with a Certificate of Appreciation in recognition of his continued and dedicated work in advancing Pan-African development and reparatory justice.

The citation recognised his commitment, leadership and contributions to the pursuit of justice, restoration, human dignity and sustainable development for people of African descent worldwide, as well as his contribution towards building a more just and equitable future for present and future generations, particularly the African Diaspora.

The recognition, presented on 9 August 2026, was conferred under the guiding principle “Nothing About Us Without Us”, reflecting the broader objectives of the 25th Anniversary commemoration of the Durban Declaration and Programme of Action.

The honour represents an important acknowledgement of Ghana’s contribution to the international reparations discourse and provides further impetus for strengthening cooperation between Ghana, European reparations organisations, the African Diaspora and other international stakeholders in advancing recognition, repair, justice, restitution and reparatory action.
