Party Pays Tribute to Celebrated Broadcaster and Dedicated Communicator
The Western Regional Communications Bureau of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) has expressed profound sorrow over the death of Comrade Seth Kwame Dzokoto, popularly known as Efiewura Kwame Dzokoto and SKD, describing his passing as a significant loss to the party, Ghana’s media industry and the entertainment fraternity. In a press release signed by the Western Regional Communications Officer, Richard Ernest Kirk-Mensah, the party said Dzokoto’s death had sent shockwaves through its ranks in the Western Region.
The NDC described the late communicator as a celebrated television personality, talented broadcaster and committed party member whose exceptional talent, humour and engaging personality endeared him to audiences across the country.
From Television Stardom to Active Politics
Beyond his success in the media and entertainment industry, Dzokoto played an active role in the NDC’s political communication activities, rising through the party’s ranks in the Tarkwa-Nsuaem Constituency. He began his political communication journey as a Deputy Constituency Communications Officer before becoming the NDC’s parliamentary candidate for Tarkwa-Nsuaem in the 2016 general elections.
Between 2018 and 2022, he also served on the Western Regional Communications Committee, where he contributed to the party’s communication and advocacy efforts. The party said his commitment to its ideals and willingness to communicate its policies and positions made him a valued member of the NDC fraternity.
Mahama Supported Medical Treatment Abroad
The statement recalled that Dzokoto encountered serious health challenges in 2023, prompting arrangements facilitated by former President John Dramani Mahama to support his medical treatment abroad. According to the NDC, the surgery was successful, and following his recovery, Dzokoto returned to active public and political engagement. He continued to advocate for the party’s ideals and interests with renewed determination, demonstrating his commitment to political communication despite the health challenges he had experienced.
Dies While Participating in Radio Discussion
In what the party described as particularly heartbreaking, Dzokoto reportedly died while participating in a radio discussion during which he was sharing his views on the forthcoming constituency elections. His reported death during a radio programme underscores the central role political communication played in his life and his continued involvement in party activities. The circumstances surrounding his death have added to the grief among party members and colleagues who remember him as a passionate communicator dedicated to expressing his views on issues affecting the NDC.
Remembered for Humour, Distinctive Voice and Political Commitment
The NDC said Dzokoto would be remembered for the laughter and happiness he brought into countless homes through television, as well as his distinctive and entertaining voice on radio. His ability to connect with people, entertain audiences and communicate political ideas made him a cherished personality among colleagues, party supporters and the general public.
The party noted that his contribution extended beyond politics, highlighting his impact on Ghana’s media and entertainment industry, where his talent and distinctive personality earned him recognition. His death, the statement added, had left a painful void in the Western Regional Communications Bureau and the wider NDC family.
NDC Extends Condolences to Bereaved Family
On behalf of the Western Regional leadership and the entire NDC fraternity in the region, the communications bureau extended its condolences to Dzokoto’s wife, children, extended family, friends, media colleagues and party members mourning his death. The party also prayed for strength for the bereaved family during the difficult period and asked God to grant the departed communicator eternal rest.
‘Your Legacy Will Live On’
Despite the pain of his passing, the NDC said Dzokoto’s contributions, service and enduring legacy would continue to inspire future generations of political communicators and party faithful. The statement concluded with an emotional tribute to the late broadcaster:
“Rest well, Comrade Seth Kwame Dzokoto. Rest well, SKD. Demirifa due, Efiewura. Your voice may be silent, but your legacy will live on.”
The tribute reflects the deep sense of loss within the party following the death of a man who combined a successful media career with years of political engagement and service to the NDC.
