In a vibrant celebration of leadership and unity, the Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, commemorated 27 years of his reign. The occasion not only highlighted his long-standing leadership but also honored individuals who have significantly contributed to the development of Asanteman and Ghana.

Honoring distinguished leaders
Among the esteemed honorees were President John Dramani Mahama, former President Nana Akufo-Addo, former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, and other influential figures including Inspector General of Police Christian Tetteh Yohunu, Sir Samuel Esson Jonah KBE, Alex Apau Dadey of KGL Group, Nick Danso of Nick Group, and Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey. The event underscored the Asantehene’s commitment to fostering collaboration, peace, and sustainable development across the nation.

Theme of the celebration
Held under the theme “Advancing Peace and Sustainable Economic Development Through Royal Vision,” the anniversary attracted distinguished figures from traditional, political, business, diplomatic, and religious sectors.

Recognition of Alex Apau Dadey and KGL Group contributions

During his address, the Asantehene singled out Mr. Alex Apau Dadey, Founder and Executive Chairman of KGL Group of Companies, for his outstanding contributions to national development and Asanteman. Under Mr. Dadey’s leadership, KGL Group partnered with Asanteman on key legacy projects, notably the KGL-EVE Medical Centre at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) and the Kumasi Medical Village. These facilities provide specialized mental health, wellness, and general medical services for women and children, serving communities across the Ashanti, Middle Belt, and Northern regions. In 2021, KGL Group became the first indigenous company to acquire the 24-karat Otumfuo Commemorative Gold Coin for One Million Ghana cedis, celebrating the Asantehene’s legacy while supporting Asanteman’s development and cultural resource center.

The event featured speeches and remarks from several dignitaries:
Former President Nana Akufo-Addo and former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia praised the Asantehene’s contributions to peace and stability.
Commonwealth Secretary-General Shirley Ayorkor Botchwey emphasized the harmony between traditional leadership and modern governance.
Olu of Warri Kingdom, Ogiame Atuwatse III, recognized Otumfuo Osei Tutu II as a “builder and guardian of peace.”
Sir Sam Jonah, Chairman of the World-Meets-in-Ghana Executive Dinner Ball, highlighted the significance of the Commemorative Gold Coin as a rare tribute to a living leader. President Mahama, through a statement read by Deputy Chief of Staff Nana Oye Bampoe Addo, acknowledged Otumfuo’s role in mediating national chieftaincy disputes and strengthening Ghana’s peace.
