Nestlé Ghana has officially unveiled the 2026 Milo U-13 Champions League at its head office in Accra, signaling the return of one of the nation’s most prominent grassroots football competitions. The launch sets the tone for an exciting tournament focused on nurturing young football talent across the country
Football legends inspire the next generation
The event was energized by the presence of Ghanaian football icons Stephen Appiah and Asamoah Gyan. Both legends engaged with the young players, offering motivation and sharing personal experiences from their careers. Their presence underscored the importance of mentorship and the role of inspiration in shaping future stars.
Nationwide participation and competition format
This year’s edition will feature sixteen basic schools selected from all regions of Ghana. These teams will compete for the newly introduced Milo U-13 Champions League trophy, adding prestige and excitement to the competition. The inclusive nature of the tournament reflects its mission to provide equal opportunities for young talents nationwide.

Speaking at the launch, Managing Director Salomé Azevedo emphasized that the tournament goes beyond the sport itself. She highlighted football’s ability to unite people and foster personal development among children.
According to her, the competition helps instill essential life values such as confidence, resilience, and teamwork—qualities that extend far beyond the pitch. She also noted the renewed enthusiasm surrounding the tournament following its successful return.

In an interview with the media, Asamoah Gyan stressed the importance of investing in grassroots football. He pointed out that many players who have represented Ghana at the national level were discovered through similar initiatives, including the Milo Championship. His remarks reinforced the idea that competitions like this serve as critical pipelines for identifying and nurturing future national team players.
Tournament schedule and venue
The 2026 Milo U-13 Champions League is set to take place from April 20 to 25 at the Essipong Stadium. The venue will host a week of competitive matches, showcasing emerging talents and celebrating the spirit of youth football in Ghana.
