Ghana Gas Board Member Charlotte Osei named among 2026 Ghana’s top 100 Women Board of Directors
Recognition for Ghana Gas Board Member
Former Electoral Commission Chairperson Charlotte Osei has been recognised among the 2026 Top 100 Ghana’s Women Board Directors, a ranking compiled by Avance Media Africa. Osei, who currently serves as a board member of the Ghana Gas Company Limited, was named alongside some of Ghana’s most prominent women serving on the boards of leading public and private institutions. The recognition marks the second edition of Avance Media’s ranking, which seeks to spotlight women making significant contributions to corporate governance and leadership across the country.
Selection Based on Leadership and Professional Experience
According to Avance Media, the 2026 ranking was based on several criteria, including professional experience, educational background, board tenure, industry expertise, leadership capabilities, notable impact and public presence. The assessment covered 100 institutions across 10 sectors, providing a broad picture of women’s participation in boardroom leadership in Ghana. Avance Media identified 895 board seats across the institutions assessed, with women occupying 232 positions, representing 25.9 per cent of the total. The ranking therefore highlights both the growing presence of women in corporate leadership and the continuing gap in achieving broader gender representation on institutional boards.
Osei’s Corporate Leadership Role
Charlotte Osei is widely known for her previous role as Chairperson of Ghana’s Electoral Commission, where she became the first woman to head the electoral body. Her inclusion in the 2026 ranking reflects her continued involvement in institutional leadership following her tenure at the Electoral Commission. As a board member of Ghana Gas Company Limited, Osei joins a growing group of accomplished Ghanaian women contributing to strategic oversight and decision-making within major organisations.
Women’s Growing Role in Corporate Governance
Avance Media said the ranking is intended to highlight the contribution of women to corporate governance, strategic decision-making and organisational leadership in Ghana. The list includes women serving as board chairs and members across banking, insurance, energy, telecommunications, technology, mining, public administration, media and other sectors. Among those recognised are Access Bank Ghana board chair Ama Sarpong Bawuah, First Atlantic Bank chair Catherine Engmann, Stanbic Bank Ghana chair Esi Tawia Addo-Ashong, GT Bank Ghana chair Irene Baaba Hagan and Ghana Grid Company chair Kuukua Maurice Ankrah.
Other notable names include Patricia Obo-Nai of Absa Bank Ghana, Mansa Nettey of Zen Petroleum, Pearl Nkrumah of the Ghana Stock Exchange and Rosie Ebe-Arthur, who serves as chair of FirstBank Ghana and a member of the MTN Ghana board.
