Agenda 111: South Dayi MP sues govt over sole-sourcing to Sir David AdjayeSouth Dayi MP sues Controller & Accountant-General

Rockson-Nelson Dafeamkepor, the Member of Parliament for South Dayi, has taken legal action against Ghana’s Controller and Accountant-General, Kwasi Kwaning-Bosompem. The goal of the lawsuit is to prevent Kwaning-Bosompem from running in the New Patriotic Party’s forthcoming parliamentary primaries.

Kwaning-Bosompem aims to become the NPP’s parliamentary candidate for the Akim Swedru constituency in the 2024 elections. Recently, some Ghanaians have been pressuring the Accountant-General to resign from his position before participating in the primaries. In response, the South Dayi lawmaker has turned to the courts for resolution. Dafeamkepor’s writ seeks a declaration from the court that it is unconstitutional for the Controller and Accountant-General to retain his position while seeking the parliamentary candidacy.

The claim also requests a declaration that a civil servant can only participate in a political party’s parliamentary primaries if they have resigned from their civil service position.

Additionally, an interlocutory injunction is sought to prevent Kwaning-Bosompem from holding himself out as the Controller and Accountant General while participating in the Akim Swedru parliamentary candidacy.
