No military land gifted to Ibrahim Mahama -Defence Ministry
False allegations spark public Clconcern
Ghana’s Ministry of Defence has firmly rejected claims that military lands have been handed over to businessman Ibrahim Mahama for private development, describing the reports as baseless and deliberately misleading.
The Deputy Minister for Defence, Ernest Brogya Genfi, addressed the controversy, urging the public to disregard what he called “false and malicious” narratives circulating in sections of the media and online platforms.
Clarifying the real story behind Burma Camp Project
According to Mr. Genfi, the issue has been widely misunderstood. Rather than any land transfer, the development in question is part of a housing initiative by the Ghana Armed Forces aimed at upgrading deteriorating accommodation facilities. The project is located within Burma Camp in Accra, where many colonial-era structures have become outdated and unfit for modern use.
Mahama’s GHS120m contribution
At the center of the discussion is a significant financial contribution—not a land acquisition. Ibrahim Mahama, through Dzata Group Holding Limited, has donated GHS120 million to support the construction of 10 housing blocks.
Each block will consist of 16 residential units, forming part of a broader effort to improve living conditions for military personnel and their families.
Fundraising efforts gain momentum
The initiative has attracted wider support from corporate Ghana. A fundraising luncheon held at the Ghana Military Academy brought together key stakeholders and partners of the Armed Forces. The event was chaired by prominent business leader Sam Jonah, with several organisations making additional pledges toward the project.
Government Praises ‘Act of Patriotism’
Mr. Genfi commended Mahama’s gesture, describing it as an “extraordinary act of patriotism.” He emphasized that the donation would directly benefit servicemen and women who play a vital role in safeguarding Ghana’s peace and security.
Commitment to military welfare
The Ministry of Defence reaffirmed its commitment to enhancing the welfare of military personnel through strategic partnerships and infrastructure upgrades. Officials say projects like the Burma Camp redevelopment are essential to ensuring that members of the Armed Forces live and work in dignified conditions. As the government pushes forward with modernization efforts, authorities insist that transparency remains a priority—and that misinformation surrounding such initiatives must be firmly challenged.
