On Monday, January 8, 2024, His Royal Majesty Eze Dr. Amb. Chukwudi Jude Ihenetu, the Diasporan King and Leader of the Igbo Community in the Republic of Ghana, visited His Royal Majesty King Dr. Ateke Michael Tom, the leader of the Okochiri Kingdom and Seukro of Niger Delta. Accompanying Eze Ihenetu were Engr. Chidimma Ihenetu and Njoku Macdonald Obinna, the Country Director and Media Coordinator for Nigeria.

During their meeting, they discussed important national issues such as leadership, peace, unity, and economic development. They highlighted the importance of building bridges across religious, ethnic, and tribal lines and the need to avoid division, rivalry, and restiveness for the nation’s peaceful coexistence. Eze Ihenetu praised King Ateke Tom for his role in ensuring peace in the Niger Delta and empowering young people through skills acquisition and scholarships. He pledged his support to King Ateke Tom’s leadership and expressed the importance of collaboration between their kingdoms.

Eze Ihenetu also shared his own experiences as the leader of the Igbo Community in Ghana, emphasizing the peaceful coexistence between his family and the Ghanaian people. He highlighted the need to sustain and strengthen the economic collaboration between Nigeria and Ghana, given Ghana’s peaceful and stable economy and its cultural proximity to Nigeria.

The meeting was seen as historical and strategic and aimed at promoting socio-cultural relationships and productivity among their subjects. King Ateke Tom expressed gratitude for Eze Ihenetu’s visit and commended his efforts in promoting peace, unity, and the Igbo culture in Ghana. He promised to collaborate with Eze Ihenetu in various ventures to strengthen the socio-cultural and economic ties between their kingdoms.
